Ms. Torres’s distinguished career began in 2000 as a Deputy County Counsel for San Joaquin County, where she honed her legal acumen representing a diverse range of county agencies, including Health and Human Services, the Sheriff’s Department, and the District Attorney’s Office. She tackled complex litigation, securing victories that included the removal of blighted properties and the skillful resolution of employment law disputes.
This early experience ignited a passion for advocacy within Ms. Torres, driving her to seek a more direct and impactful role in the courtroom. She transitioned to the role of Deputy District Attorney for San Joaquin County, where she prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases, gaining invaluable trial experience and a comprehensive understanding of criminal law.
Ms. Torres’s dedication to the Oakland community is woven into the fabric of her career. She served as an elected Trustee on the Oakland Unified School District Board, representing District 5, from 2012 to 2020, where she tirelessly championed educational equity and opportunity for all students. Beyond the courtroom, she actively contributes to numerous local organizations, including the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Centro Legal de La Raza, and People United for a Better Life in Oakland. She has earned the trust and respect of the broader Oakland community, making her a powerful voice for her clients.

Along with becoming a trusted advocate on behalf of clients throughout the Bay Area, Ms. Torres believes strongly in giving back to the community and has served on a variety of boards and committees in Oakland, including:

In 2012, Ms. Torres ran a successful campaign to be elected as Trustee on the Oakland Unified School District serving District 5. The term of Trustee is four years, from 2013-2017.
